RAKE LOCK PICKS

Almost every SPARROWS lock pick set will have a balance of hook and rake picks. But some just want only rake picks or more of them, and who can blame them? Rakes are fantastic. Designed to be quickly pulled across all the pins in a fast motion rake, picks make the pins jump inside the lock allowing you to set many at a time. With a few rakes of a lock pick you can quickly get that fantastic lock opening pop.

Rake Options

Over the years we have seen many “raking” techniques from a gentle back and forth to what looks like someone trying to see the lock open. Just as the techniques vary, so do the shapes from the classic city rake to the more modern triple peak (bogota). At SPARROWS we have designed and carried all the top raking lock picks that have been designed with and tested extensively by the lockpicking community.

How Do You Use a Rake Lock Pick?

For best results we would highly recommend that you start with a triple peak lockpick and a low security padlock or one of our progressive locks. With a light amount of tension put the rake to the back of the lock and lift it so the the peaks of the pick are just touching the base of the pins and then quickly pull the pick out zipping across the bottom of the pins. With some practice the pins will be raked above the sheer line and the lock will open. Another option is to scrub the lock in sections. Apply tension to the lock, get your pick in the back and quickly move the pick over just the back a few times then move to the front and scrub just the front. Repeat this going back and forth between the front and back until the lock opens. Another great technique is the classic “Rake the hell out of it”. Get your rake in that lock and give it hell. Move the rake quickly back and forth endlessly with varying levels of tension as you mutter “new hobby they said , fun they said, oh no you don't want a cat try lock picking, people love lock picking”.
